Day Trip to D.C

Since we had a break from doctor's and hospitals for a day, we decided to take a quick trip down to D.C.
Benny has a cousin who works for Homeland Security and works in D.C so we went for a visit. We were able to see some of the sites of the Capital like the monuments, museums and alot of walking paths!! It was hot and muggy but beautiful weather otherwise. It was so nice to get out with just us and Lily and spend some time with her.
We also were able to get a personalize tour through the capital building from Benny's cousin Dan. It was a great last hoorah before Lily's big surgery this week and only a 45 minute drive from Baltimore. Now it's back to reality as we prepare for many weeks in a hospital room.

Lily (age 5 1/2) will have major bladder reconstruction surgery on Oct 29th at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. It will be an intensive 8 hour surgery, followed by 6 weeks recovery and therapy. Lily was born with Bladder Exstrophy, a very rare and complicated birth defect, and has had many surgeries and procedures in her life so far. This surgery will be an important step for her future. She will finally be continent after having to wear diapers, pull ups, and pads till now. It will not come easy though, as it will take many weeks of hard recovery in a city across the country from our home in California. I am making this blog/journal for my friends who also are dealing with bladder exstrophy, and also so that me and Lily will have a record of our experiences during this trial in our lives.
