Looking up

Today i woke up to news that a certain level we had been watching on Lily went down, which is good. They are trying to figure out what level to keep her epidural on, and blah, blah, blah. Too many details to write, but things are going good. I got to go to church today with a friend of a friend who lives out here. Her husband plays for the Baltimore Orioles Baseball team, and she is so sweet. She came and picked me up with her 2 kids. Church was great, and I was so glad I went. I felt right at home and very welcomed. I worried about leaving Lily for that long, but she slept the whole time!
I have had some really awesome nurses here! I love that they all know what to do! There is a nurse named Laura that we have had 2 nights in a row now, and she is fantastic. I talked with her for a few hours last night and we talked a lot about her job. I wondered how she did it, how she was a pediatric ICU nurse. She says that it can be hard, she does go home some nights wondering if that baby is going to make it through the night. She says that she generally sees people on the worst or hardest day of their lives. She says that she is so impressed with the strength people have, and it helps her find meaning in the day to day trials. She says she's seen people crumble to the ground, and then they eventually get back up and make it through. She loves her job and wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. She brought me to tears because she is so passionate about helping these kids get through the hardest time of their lives. She first on my favorite nurses list!! And, she has an awesome name!

Laura you amaze me and inspire me. YOu are SOOOO great about making friends everywhere you go. I Know that I could never do that and reading this inspires me to be strong like you and conquer my fears. You are in such a trial in your life and look at you going to church in a strange place, meeting new people and making friends left and right. You amaze me. I am glad whatever levels that needed to go down did. GO LILY! (that's my little cheer for you!) I love you!

How great to have such a cool nurse to talk to and to take care of Lily! Lily deserves the best and that is what she is getting there, eh?! I am so glad that you got your break down out and that your spirits are lifted from church. You are such a positive person, Laura. You have a way of making everything easier and you help those around you, too. I'm so happy that Lily's levels went down, too. I'm not sure what that means, either, but I am glad if you are! You are doing a great job over there. You are super mom!!! Talk soon!! Love you!

Don't you just love those nurses!!! I remember with Ella, when we got a good nurse, I just wanted her to stay with us the whole time:) It really made me want to become a nurse, so you can help people just like they helped us...maybe when the kids get older. Love you~Elke
