4 Weeks Down!

Today marks four weeks of Lily being in traction. WOW, that is a long time! I still can't believe I've been here a whole month. My life back home is on pause right now and I have to find ways to get through the long and boring days here. The house I've been staying at has been so great! They provide dinner a couple days a week, and a driver who can take me to the store when I need to. So I've been able to get any food or things I need, so I don't have to live on food court food! Today there is a Farmer's Market next to the hospital and I'm going to get some fresh fruit and maybe some ice cream!

Being away from home can be hard, but there have been some things that have helped me get through it. I have to thank them. . . .

Thank you Bagel-fuls for a great on-the-go breakfast! I like the Strawberry ones!

Thank you hulu.com for giving me hours of entertainment! I enjoy watching old and new shows like 30 Rock, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, SNL, The Office, Conan, and more!

Lily (age 5 1/2) will have major bladder reconstruction surgery on Oct 29th at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. It will be an intensive 8 hour surgery, followed by 6 weeks recovery and therapy. Lily was born with Bladder Exstrophy, a very rare and complicated birth defect, and has had many surgeries and procedures in her life so far. This surgery will be an important step for her future. She will finally be continent after having to wear diapers, pull ups, and pads till now. It will not come easy though, as it will take many weeks of hard recovery in a city across the country from our home in California. I am making this blog/journal for my friends who also are dealing with bladder exstrophy, and also so that me and Lily will have a record of our experiences during this trial in our lives.
