We got here Monday night, back to the Children's House - our home away from home. We got settled and cozy right away. Tuesday morning we woke up to 3 inches of snow outside. It was really pretty, but then I realized I had to go out in it. We layered up and headed over to the hospital. Our appt was to check the ureter (tube that connects the kidney to the bladder) and see if the urine will flow through it now. We kept a tube in the ureter for the last 3 weeks in hopes that all the swelling would go down around it. After the procedure, they said that they were able to get a wire through the ureter no problem, so it should hopefully drain. They kept the tube in only the kidney, not through the ureter anymore. We would try first by capping it off and seeing if flows. We would know fairly soon if it wasn't draining - she would get pain in her lower back meaning the kidney was getting backed up with urine. So yesterday all day long we tried. After a half hour or so she did get back pain . I'd uncap it and let it flow for awhile and then try again. Still back pain. It wasn't working. Her ureter is still too tight and not letting urine through. Sooooo, now that means they have to go in again and try an open it up. They have a few techniques, similar to opening a clogged artery, that they will do. I really truly expected this. As much as I am a positive person, I just didn't think this would be an easy fix. And of course I'm bummed and frustrated to be going back to the OR AGAIN! And they also told me I have stay longer. Not going home tomorrow anymore. I actually don't even know at this point when we'll be going home.
So today we are here and hanging in the Pre-Op waiting area. Another morning of no eating- this is getting old. But, she's a total pro by now. We know the drill soooo well. We know all the nurses here by name and all the anesthesiologists. At least that's comforting, but they all look at us like "you're back again?" Yes. We are. And by the look on my face, we obviously don't want to be here.
Hoping today I get answers again and they are able to get that ureter to open. And I find out the plan moving forward. Ugh. 2015 isn't starting out the best, but I can only hope that by the end of this year all this will be a distant memory.
She's a total pro, and why does she look 10 here??!
